ReCreate has proven to be a massive hit with a lot of our community group members when it comes to St. Patrick’s Day. We’ve seen our members come and visit for all sorts of Paddy’s day designs over the last few years, from small bits like costumes or hats for the little ones walking the parade to large scale materials for putting together floats and large props. But working with some reuse materials can challenging at times, not to worry though, we’re here to give a helping hand!

Throughout February we are working with a number of Community & Youth groups within the Fingal area to help them prepare for the local St. Patrick’s day parade celebrations. Last Saturday the 9th of February, we worked with a number of groups in Mulhuddart. Our Arts Officer Fiona brought a wide range of ReCreate materials to the groups and the workshop focused on making large hand held props, drums, shakers and general noise makers 🙂 The workshops were inter-generational with children and adults working together. Our selection of fabrics proved very popular for decorating the instruments due to the bright colors, differing textures and varieties. Five different groups took part in this workshop, making large flower props, a giant sun, moon and stars, carnival masks and percussion instruments. Each group left with lots of items to bring back to their respective communities, and we can’t wait to see how they all look in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Blanchardstown. Fingal County Council have encouraged their community groups to use as many reusable materials as possible when preparing for this years parade, and we’re delighted to have been able to help provide a few ideas for these community groups.

We will be back on the 21st & 22nd of February to help some different groups with their parade ideas and we’re really looking forward to seeing how they all turn out on the day!
