We have exciting news!

We are planning and hosting our first ReCreate Family Fun Day in Corkagh Park on Saturday 15th June.

While we have taken part in many Family Fun Days, Play Days and other large community events, we have never had the opportunity to organise our very own, until now!

This opportunity has been made possible through the Creative Ireland initiative and South Dublin County Council who are supporting this event, and many more across the county.

It all began in February, earlier this year when South Dublin County Council Arts Office advertised an open-call to submit applications for Cruinniú na nÓg 2019 as part of the South Dublin Creative Ireland Programme. This open call was for activities, performances, readings, workshops or interactive art installations to take place on or leading up to Saturday 15th June 2019. We submitted a proposal for our Fun Day and our application was accepted.

Creative Ireland was established in response to the positive reaction to festivities and events that took place in 2016, to commemorate the centenary of 1916.  The culture-based programme invites the entire country to get involved in cultural, arts based and creative activities and is designed to promote individual, community and national well-being. The core belief, as outlined by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, is that participation in cultural activity drives personal and collective creativity, with significant implications for individual and societal well-being and achievement. Those involved in Creative Ireland believe the best way to nurture the creative imagination is through active engagement with arts and culture and that promoting creativity provides us with a strategy for individual well-being, social cohesion and economic success.

“Culture and creativity are the greatest assets of any society. It is our duty to do everything we can to unleash the full creative potential of our people. That is what this initiative is all about” Creative Ireland Programme

In partnership with 31 Local Authorities and supported by RTE, Creative Ireland established Cruinniú na nÓg, a national day of creativity for children and young people on June 15th. This day celebrates and encourages children and young people’s participation in culture and creativity through a large range of events including performance, coding, theatre, art and music workshops, readings, screenings, special events and much more. As well as our ReCreate Family Fun Day, this year will see thousands of parents, families and young people taking part in a wide range of fun, creative activities across the country. Saturday, June 15th is a day for ‘doing’, ‘making’ and ‘creating’!

Therefore we invite you and your family to Corkagh Park for a fun filled afternoon. We will be bringing an array of creative activities to this beautiful green space. Under the canopy of a marquee, carpet will define areas for making and creating with materials such as wool, plastics, fabric and foil. A feast for the senses, activities will spill out onto the grass where the creative fun can continue. Catering for young children to teenagers, you can be curious and inventive together and celebrate ReCreate’s first Family Fun Day for Cruinniú na nÓg 2019.

This free event is supported by Creative Ireland – South Dublin.
