Community Group & Family Workshops
Community based workshops
ReCreate can deliver fun, hands-on workshops for your community group or centre. Whether it’s helping you design and make a range of props or decorations for your St Patrick’s Day parade, decorating communal outdoor spaces or contributing artistic elements to community gardens, we provide creative expertise and materials for a wide variety of events and themes.
We also work with youth groups on a range of community projects and camps focusing on themes that are meaningful and fun.
Staff training for youth workers and others working in the community
If you work with teenagers, are a scout leader or youth project coordinator we can help you develop new creative activities to engage your teens. We will devise a workshop for your staff, exploring ideas and activities you can do with your group. Using a selection of materials we will help you discover new ways to engage young people. The workshop will show you how to encourage participation, collaboration, communication, creativity and also care of the environment by encouraging the reuse of materials otherwise thrown away.
Youth Leader – Heads Up 2016
“It really gave the group an identity and helped each child feel part of the group. The children were proud of their work, their self-esteem was built, relationships were built. It really touched each child in different ways”
Dementia-inclusive activities
For those living with dementia, taking part in creative activities has a therapeutic effect, reducing depression and isolation through the social act of working together in small groups and with an arts facilitator.
ReCreate’s workshops for those living with dementia, allow participants the opportunity to engage in simple creative processes that encourage the practice of motor skills, hand-eye and hand-brain coordination. The sensory and tactile qualities of the materials used, can also contribute to improvements in self-expression, having a positive effect on the wellbeing of the user. Engagement in these creative processes also provides an alternative channel of communication for those with limited capabilities.
ReCreate run creative workshops that cater for those living with dementia which adopt a person-centred care approach. Working in both residential and day-care settings, a ReCreate artist, in consultation with the care assistants and service users develop ideas, suitable processes and techniques that encourage sensory stimulation, social activity and participation. People at early and later stages of Alzheimer’s are welcome to participate as emphasis is placed on nurturing individual ability, motor skills and encouraging tactile engagement with materials.
Family Fun Days & Festivals
Add a sparkle of colour and excitement to your family fun-day or festival by inviting ReCreate to create an inclusive play space as part of your event. Whether it’s under the canopy of a marquee or outdoors on the grass, ReCreate will have areas for making and creating, with an array of materials such as wool, plastics, fabric and foil. Our artists will invite children and their families to explore the wonderful world of reuse materials as they are curious, creative and inventive together. Catering for all ages, the children’s (and adults) creations can be taken home as a memory of their fantastic Day.
